A newly recruited police constable has been caught on camera while extorting a motorcycle rider in Ibadan.
The Constable, Popoola Olufemi, with service number 509377, was filmed extorting the rider by a passenger on the bike.
The video of the ‘illegal’ act was then forwarded to the WhatsApp group of Police/Press Chat Zone XI.
Upon seeing the video, the Police Public Relations Officer of Zone Eleven, Adekunle Ajisebutu took up the matter with dispatch and promised a thorough investigation of the event.
The investigation by the police force revealed that the constable receiving bribe in the video, Popoola Olufemi, was attached to the Elebu Police Division while the act of extortion was carried out at Oke Aro community within the division.
As of the time of writing this report, the constable and members of his team had been arrested on the order of the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Sina Olukolu.
Mr. Ajisebutu, the Zonal PPRO said, “after I informed him (Oyo PPRO and the CP) …the team has been arrested and currently being investigated”.
He added,”Sadly, if you watched the video carefully, you will discover that the policeman is a Constable, one of those recently recruited. Before his enlistment, he must have been one of those condemning the ignoble act”.
