CORONAVIRUS: Skimeh, Olatubosun, Peller, Sadipe, Agboworin, Other Reps Donate Two Months Salaries

All members of the house of representatives including the fourteen members from Oyo State have announced the decision to donate their salaries for the next two months to support the country’s fight against coronavirus,

The decision of the members of the Green house was announced by the Speaker of the house, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila in a video message made available to OYOINSIGHT.COM on Tuesday.

In the video message, Gbajabiamila said, “We have in the house ofrepresentatives jointly committed to contributing one hundredpercent (100%) of our salaries for the next two months to the fightagainst COVID-19 in Nigeria.

“Starting from March salary, the lawmakers’ donation will betransferred directly to the National Relief Fund account for the fightagainst COVID-19.

“Our contribution will support provisions for the welfare of front-line medical professionals and health workers, and otherinterventions to provide for the well-being of all Nigerians throughthese trying times.

He stressed further that he has directed the clerk to the National Assembly to see to it that all members’ salaries are transferred to thenational relief fund for this month and the next.

He then implored the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to also make cash grants available to the 774 local government areas in thecountry to alleviate the suffering of the masses amid this pandemic.

He also noted that the grant should be for the provision of food andother essentials to at-risk individuals and communities.

“This crisis has exposed in the worst possible way the evident weaknesses of our health system.

“After this is over and moving forward, we must do everything inour power to ensure that we will never again come upon a momentsuch as this, as ill-equipped as we are now, he added.

OYOINSIGHT.COM had earlier reported how members of the Senate including the three Senators from Oyo State donated 50 percent of their salaries to the fight against coronavirus.

At the time of writing this report, the total number of confirmedcases by the NCDC in the country is now 135 with two deaths.

The index case in Oyo the pacesetter State is now Eight.
