Ibadan-based broadcaster and political scientist, Edmund Obilo, has announced his readiness for the battle against coronavirus after testing negative.
Obilo disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, According to him, his wife took him to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan where he was quarantined at the Infectious Diseases Ward in the morning of Friday, 20 March 2020, after suffering symptoms similarto COVID-19.
However, when the result of the test came out on Monday 23 March, 2020, he tested negative.
He then thanked the management of the hospital for ensuring that he got the conducive environment required for the care of a patient indistress despite the fact that the ward was not in the best ofcondition when he arrived.
“I have left the hospital. I am set for the battle against COVID-19,” he said, to express his readiness for the battle against coronavirus – a pandemic that has killed more than 16,000 people globally.
While commending the health workers for their bravery he said, “I was attended to by hard-working doctors, nurses, and cleaners whoproved that no matter the challenges, we can rise above theobstacles on our road to quality healthcare. They are the champions of a new Nigeria. I celebrate them for braving the situation. They have conquered the fear that comes with a pandemic. They are the soldiers on the battlefront.“
He also honored the journalism profession for “living up to theresponsibility of informing and educating the people.“
OYOINSIGHT.COM had earlier reported how Edmund who presents the widely listened-to program State Affairs on Splash FM was admittedand quarantined before testing negative for coronavirus at UCH, Ibadan.
At the time of writing this report, the country has recorded 81 casesof the virus and one death. Three patients have recovered and havesince been discharged from the hospital.
The index case in Oyo State is now three with no death recorded.
