The Governing Board and Executive Council of the Muslim Community of Nigeria’s premier University, University of Ibadan have announced the suspension of the weekly Jum’ahprayers and other events that can attract up to fifty people in the Central Mosque of the Institution.
This was contained in a Public Notice made available to OYOINSIGHT on Coronavirus signed by the Chief Imam of the Muslim Community, Professor M.O. AbdulRahman earlier today.
According to him, the decision to announce the suspension of any event that will create the gathering of up to fifty people was reached “having considered the recent Global occurrences around COVID-19 epidemic, especially the official revelation that the Ekiti State index stayed in Ibadan for 14 days”.
He thereby encouraged members to pray in their homes and observe personal hygiene while they continue their Adhkar for Allah to put a halt to this deadly plague that has brought various human activities to a halt globally.
He then enjoined “members to continue to read Ayatul Kursiyy(Q2:255)” and heed to the advice contained in the publication of the School’s Health Services.
Even though the Oyo State Government is yet to place any official suspension on public gatherings, this suspension is coming after the Government of Lagos and Ogun States have suspended indefinitely any gathering of more than 50 people to prevent the spread of an epidemic with eight confirmed cases in the Country and thousands globally.
