A chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Alhaji Atanda Akinwumi, has congratulated the Oniru-elect of Iru, Victoria Island, Lagos, Prince Hakeem Ajasa.
Allahdey, as the Oyo-born unionist is popularly known, said that the selection of Prince Ajasa, could not have come at a more appropriate time than now.
Praying for a peaceful reign, Allahdey, who is a family friend to the new Oniru, disclosed that the people of Iruland are in for greater developmental strides as Prince Ajasa would use his wide network to ensure continued development in the area.
OYOINSIGHT.COM recalls that the Abisogun ruling house of Iru had selected Prince Ajasa, as its nominee for the exalted position, following the demise of Oba Idowu Abiodun Oniru.
Ajasa, an experienced police officer, was Chief Security Officer to former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola. A few months ago, he was also appointed as Chief Security Officer to House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.
He was presented by Chief Kashimawo Bello to the heads of Omowunmi, Ewumi, Omisade and Oresanya families, which constitute the Abisogun Ruling House.
Ajasa is expected to be presented to the Lagos State Government by the officials of the Iru/Victoria Island Local Government this week.
After the announcement, he will proceed to the traditional “ipebi” in accordance with the custom.
The presentation was endorsed by top elders from the ruling house, including Chief Biliamiu Sanni Abisogun, Chief Rafiu Ogunbambi Olisa, Adebiyi Abisogun, Chief Saliu Abisogun Odofin, Chief Tajudeen Kafaru, Abiodun Ajasa, Baale Igbosere Chief Salau Isa, Kabiru Oseni, Hameed Oseni and Jide Oniru.
Shouts of “Kabiyesi” filled the air as the elders and family heads jointly raised Ajasa’s hands, amid jubilation by royal princes and princesses, associates and well-wishers.
The crowd at Block 203, Amuwo Odofin Low Cost Housing, Mile Two, venue of the brief ceremony, was huge. Representatives of the families were in one accord as they prayed for Ajasa and wished him an eventful reign.
Clad in a white ‘buba’ and a white cap to match, an excited Ajasa burst into singing in Iru dialect, praising God for fulfilling his destiny.
“We must acknowledge the fact that it is God’s calling,” he said amid the chant of “Kabiyesi” by his kinsmen and well-wishers. Ajasa paid tributes to the family heads, promising not to disappoint them.
He said his selection and presentation were an act of God and product of family consent.
Peeping into the future, he said: “We will attract development to Iru and its environs.”
He hailed the families that constituted the ruling house for their unity, cohesion and sense of purpose.
Ajasa said: “There is peace and harmony in the family. They unanimously elected me to the vacant stool of Oniru. I thank you all and I will not disappoint you. I will live up to your expectation.”
