6 Officers Were Killed, Others Missing — Oyo CP Says, Announces Arrest Of 9 Suspects

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu has revealed that at least six of his men were killed, while some are still missing following the recent violent attacks by hoodlums on police stations across the country.

The Commissioner explained that the hoodlums capitalized on the protest to perpetrate crime adding that they also burnt five divisional police headquarters and patrol vans, while exhibits in the stations were looted and police arms and ammunition were carted away in the process.

He revealed this at the police command at Eleyele in Ibadan on Wednesday while parading nine suspected arsonists that were involved in the attack of a divisional police headquarters in Iseyin on Thursday, October 22nd, 2020.

The suspects, according to the Commissioner are, Taoreed Hamsat, 22 years old, Tajudeen Ibrahim, 40, Moshood Fatai, 39, Musibau Abubakar, 21 and Fasasi Fatai, 24.
Others included Isiaka Olaniyi, 32, Raheem Toheeb, 28 and Adeleke Akeem, 42.

According to him, “on Monday, 26th October, 2020 we received at the Quick Intervention Unit of the Oyo State Police Command that some hoodlums who attacked and dislodged policemen at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Iseyin, looted valuables with some exhibits and thereafter set ablaze the station during the ENDSARS protest were sighted in their hideouts in Iseyin town.

“Sequel to this information, a team of policemen attached to the unit moved swiftly to the area and in the process, nine of the arsonists and criminal looters were arrested in connection with the crimes, while some exhibits were recovered from them,” CP Enwonwu said.

He said that the police have arrested six people in connection with Ogbomoso attacks and have been prosecuting them in the court of law.
While commending the people of Oyo State for helping the command with credible information from time to time, he assured that the police will continue to put up efforts to arrest all other hoodlums who have carried out massive looting and coordinated attacks on police stations and personnel.
