Led by popular television Islamic preacher, Sheik Hamad Alfulanny, the clerics as well as representatives of various Islamic organizations and members of Asalatu groups, drawn from Oyo and neighbouring states also endorsed the All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain was their preferred presidential candidate in 2023 general election. Sheikh Abdulganiy Abubakry, the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, was also in attendance.
Only last week, Sanusi, who is Mogaji of Olugbade compound, gathered 10,000 landlords, members of the Fredrick Fasehun’s faction of the Odu’a Peoples Congress, OPC, Agbekoya and other groups for Tinubu.
Sanusi, weeks before then, had mobilized Ibadan compound and village heads as well as the leadership of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII for the top presidential hopeful.
While addressing clerics, who filled the mini stadium of Ilaji resorts, Alfulanny explained that apart from Tinubu’s pedigree, his antecedent stands him out of other contestants vying for the presidential seat which makes him gained wide acceptability.
According to him, Tinubu has all it takes to solve challenges facing the nation if he is elected, adding that every Nigerians would enjoyed dividends of democracy when Tinubu become Nigerias President.
They later prayed for Tinubu, urging all attendees to continue mobilizing in their various localities.
Speaking at the event, Sanusi, who is the Otun Apesinola of Ibadanland, revealed that Tinubu would foster peace and development if he is elected as Nigeria’s next president.
The business magnate disclosed that nothing would stop him from mobilising support for Tinubu to become president of Nigeria because he believes he was the most competent among all the presidential candidates.
Recalling how Nigeria’s economy graduated into a borrowed economy under successive administrations as a result of global impacts of pandemic and war, Sanusi stated that “Now that we are operating under borrowed economy, we need somebody that has intellectual capacity. We need somebody that can see opportunities where others don’t see. So we need somebody that can spot opportunity where there is no opportunity and advance our cause to save the future of our children,” he said.
Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade, the Coordinator of the programme, said that the event was very successful, having attracted the Chief Imam of Ibadanland who was also the Grand Imam of Oyo State.
He said that the clamour and support for Tinubu was due to his track records as governor of Lagos State as well as his competence.
“We believe Tinubu can give us what we need to take Nigeria to the next level. So we are giving him the support backed with grand prayers,” he said.
Akinade appealed to Nigerians irrespective of their ethnicity or religion to vote for Tinubu .
“I have been able to travel to three African countries and I met people that matters in those countries.
“To my greatest surprise, they respect Tinubu more than some of us in this country. If our own is respected for his dexterity, we must be proud of him here too,” he said.
Christian leaders and groups in the state would also converge on the same venue by December 10 to support as well as pray for Tinubu.
